Graveside service will be held at Walters Cemetery, Monday, July 1, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. John Carlisle officiating under the care of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. Viewing on Saturday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Huston Calvin “Sonny” Sansome Jr. was born on May 27, 1939 in Columbus, GA to Huston Calvin and Carrie Belle (Mills) Sansome and departed this life on June 27, 2024 in Lawton, OK at the age of 85 years and 1 month.

Sonny grew up in Georgia and while in high school began his career in the United States Army. He married Barbara Kay Cooper on January 28, 1957. He was stationed at Fort Sill, OK in 1958, making their home in Walters, OK off and on over the years, including some time spent in Florida. In 1960, as a side hustle while in the military, he also served as manager and lifeguard at the Walters Pool, and was also a fireman for the city.

After retiring from the Army, Sonny began a 30year career as an Agent for the State Fire Marshal, retiring in 2001. He was also active remodeling houses, working at the nutrition center, and gave real estate a try for a time.

Sonny had a Bachelor Degree in Technology from Cameron University. He enjoyed golfing, tinkering with computers, classical music, learning and researching The Bible, and loved dressing sharp including wearing a nice dress hat.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sansome; two sons, an infant son John Edward Sansome, and Terry Lynn Sansome; his parents, Huston and Carrie Sansome; his sister, Christine Sansome Walsh.

He is survived by his grandchildren; Jenifer White and Brady, and Terry Sansome and Ashlie; his daughter-in-law, Delaine Sansome, all of Walters; 6 great grandchildren, Christian Sansome, Gage Sansome, Jayden Sansome, Amberlea Adams, Bralea McKee, and Jace Pequeno; 3 great-great grandchildren, Brilea Adams, River Adams and Sunny Joy McKee; other relatives and a host of friends.
