Graveside services at Fairview Cemetery, Randlett, OK on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., cousin David Zachary officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, OK.

Peggy Joan (Zachary) Mahan was born to Lois Anthony and Mary Marie (Brooks) Zachary on December 9, 1941 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Fort Worth, TX on October 3, 2021 at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 24 days.

Peggy grew up at Cookietown, OK, attending Union Valley Schools and then Walters High School, graduating from WHS in 1959. She married Delbert Eugene Mahan and they raised 2 sons and a daughter. Peggy initially made her home in Anadarko, OK and while attending the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK. She received her Bachelors in Education in 1964 and went on to be an elementary teacher in Gracemont, OK and then taught for many years at numerous Wichita Falls schools. She retired while at Austin Elementary after a 35-year career in teaching and then substituted for a couple of years after that. She later moved to the Fort Worth area in June of 2020.

Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls and attended Fellowship of the Parks in Keller with her son and his family. She accepted Christ into her life and was baptized at the age of 9 at Union Valley Baptist Church, Cookietown, OK. She enjoyed reading, attending her grandkids games (especially softball), shopping with her granddaughters and travel. A trip to Alaska was a highlight of her life.

She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Allen “Tony” Mahan; her parents, Lois and Pete Zachary; and her sister, Janet Abbe.

Survivors include a son, Garner Mahan and wife Lauren of Keller, TX; a daughter, Lisa Williams and husband Brad of Prosper, TX; 6 grandchildren, Landry Mahan and Holly Mahan both of Keller, Shelby (Williams) Tussentsamer and husband Dakota of San Marcus, TX, Reese Williams, Kendall Williams and Burk Williams all of Prosper; other relatives and friends.
