Barbara June Thomas

The funeral service for Barbara June Thomas, 82, of Ninnekah, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 28th 2023 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jacki Banks officiating.

Barbara June (Smith) Thomas was born on June 13, 1941 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to William Thomas Smith and Laura Rachel (Hail) Smith. Barbara June Thomas passed unexpectantly from this life peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Barbara (Smith) Thomas was raised in Dibble, Oklahoma graduating from Dibble High School in 1959. She attended Oklahoma State University and studied business administration, where she met the love of her life George Michael Thomas. Barbara graduated from OSU with honors in the field of business administration. She married George Michael Thomas on July 7, 1962 in Chickasha, Oklahoma and they were married for over 53 incredible years.

Barbara loved being the matriarch of her family. Barbara served her community and all those she met in a variety of capacities, but she was most proud of being awarded the Oklahoma Homemaker of the year award. Barbara’s selflessness, commitment and devotion to serving others went far beyond this organization. Barbara earned numerous civic awards for her commitment to Temple and Ninnekah Oklahoma. Barbara supported her husband Michael in his mobile veterinarian clinic in Ninnekah from 1981 until his passing in 2015. Barbara was a light for all who came across her, but her family was the center of her universe. Her passion, love, support, and kindness for her children and grandchildren was second to none. She never missed an opportunity to show how much she cherished and loved them. Every holiday, she made sure both of her children, and all five of her grandchildren had a handwritten card letting them know they are loved. Barbara is finally home, with her Lord, her soulmate, and so many more.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas Smith and Laura Rachel Smith; her husband, George Michael Thomas; brothers William Doyle Smith, John Thomas Smith, Williard Mauree Smith, Clodus Ray Smith, and Dale W. Smith; and sister Norma Jean (Smith) Johnson.

Loved ones left to remember and cherish her memories are her daughter Michele Flanagan of Lawton; son and daughter-in-law Joe and Valerie Thomas of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren, Sean Flanagan and wife Karly Flanagan of Oklahoma City, Connor Flanagan of Lawton, Oklahoma, Victoria, Michael, and Braedon Thomas of Gilbert, Arizona and several extended family and friends.

Viewing will be at Ferguson Funeral Home on December 27th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be held in the Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home, where words of comfort and condolences may be left for the family at www.fergusonfuneralhome.com
