Thank you.
My name is Sherri Flanagan and I am running for City Council, Ward 3. I was born in Walters, Oklahoma, and have made it my home for most of my life. I am married to Michael C. Flanagan, who is the Associate District Judge of Cotton County. My parents are Ralph (recently deceased) and Sammie Thorne. I have two children, Erin Collier, Evan Flanagan and four grandchildren. Early in my career, I managed Bill’s Department Store in Walters. Later, I worked for Parrish Insurance in Walters and J.T. Neal Insurance in Lawton for 23 years as a commercial insurance agent. After retiring in 2013, I worked for Jon Lagerberg Law Office in Walters as a legal secretary for 3 years. Most recently, I have volunteered at the Walters Senior Citizens Center and serve on its board. I am running for city council because I want to serve the citizens of Walters by helping to improve the city. I will bring a woman’s perspective to the council and be an independent and active force for positive change where needed. It is my belief that the city should work for the well-being of its citizens and serve its citizens with respect and dignity.
I believe that the city should support local groups such as the Chamber of Commerce, Senior Citizen Center, local church groups, and others. I further believe the council should obtain available funding from government agencies and work with our tribal partners to improve the city.
I support a police force that enforces the law fairly and justly, without discrimination, and works in partnership with the Cotton County Sheriff’s Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation, and federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.
It is also my belief that the city should work in partnership with Walters Public Schools and support all efforts of the school and parents to educate and protect our children.
If elected, I pledge to be fully informed of all matters related to city business. I will seek advice from qualified professionals, determine the views of citizens, and cast informed and effective votes in support of progress for Walters. I will insist on transparency in city government and truthful discourse with the citizens and will follow the law in all matters.
As a candidate for city council, I humbly ask for your vote and support on Tuesday, February 13th.
Sherri Flanagan
