Charlene (Poemoceah) Wells, 86, Walters, OK

Funeral Service at the Walters Comanche Nation Community Center, Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Albert DeLeon officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. A prayer service was held at the Hart-Wyatt Chapel in Walters on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Michelle Harmon and Tory Fodder.

Charlene Arlene (Poemoceah) Wells was born to Silcott and Mable (Wabahrokah) Poemoceah on August 25, 1939, in Lawton, OK.

Arlene grew up Southeast of Walters, Oklahoma. She attended Walters Public School. She married Fred H. Codynah Jr. and to this union three children were born. Together the family lived in various cities including Dallas, TX, Chicago, IL, and made their home in Walters, OK.

She worked at the Hagger Factory in Temple, Oklahoma for 20 plus years. She served on the Walters Powwow Committee numerous times and was the 1956 Walters Powwow Princess. She was also a lifelong supporter and proud member of the Walters powwow, now named Comanche Homecoming. In 1983, she met Henry Wells and together they made their home in Lawton, Oklahoma.

She was a member of Voices of Truth Ministries. She enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren. She loved her great grandchildren, who she adored very much. Arlene loved to listen to oldies and attend Powwows. She shared a special bond with her nephew Edward Tahhahway Jr. and enjoyed listening to him and singing Comanche Hymns together.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Henry Wells; parents, Silcott and Mable (Wabahrokah) Poemoceah; one brother, Kelly Waddell Poemoceah; two sisters, Jenell and Jenice Poemoceah; and two great-granddaughters, Kaylesia Jenice Cody-Ponah and Ivy-Leigh White.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Amos Hario of Cyril, Oklahoma, and their three children Todd, Shannon, and April; one son and daughter-in-law, Fred Codynah and Liz Ware; two daughters Pamela Kay Codynah and Tanya Rose Codynah, all of Lawton, Oklahoma. Grandchildren: Kyle, Kanya, Kelsey, Sonny Rose, Kelly, Bella, Tristian, Solomon, Sarah, Jennifer and Josh, 9 great-grandchildren; a special nephew/son Fred William Fodder and Pam and their children Tory, Andrea and Chelsey; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Special thanks to her granddaughter Kanya for taking such good care of her for the past ten years and for Blake, Elizabeth, Melissa, and Jamie with Centric Hospice for the care they have shown her over the past few years.

Pallbearers: Kelly Codynah, Kyle Codynah, Tristan Codynah, Josh Passah, Keifer Kopaddy, Harley Pewewardy, Solomon Mamme-day, Jordin Heminokeky and Elias Passah.

Honorary Pallbearers: Edward Tahhahway Jr., George Marlin Tah-ddoanhpah, Kelly Miheoby, Brian Stillwell, Curtis Poafpybity, Tony Pennah, Dean Pahchecka, Terry Poemoceah, Leonard Chibitty, and Gerald Wabahrokah.
