WALTERS, OKLAHOMA — Cotton County is preparing to celebrate a major milestone as the Cotton County Courthouse marks 100 years of serving the community with a week-long Centennial Celebration November 2–6, 2026.
The celebration will honor the rich history, heritage, people and community spirit that have shaped Cotton County over the past century. Throughout the week, the courthouse will come alive with opportunities for residents, students and visitors to learn more about the history of the courthouse and the county government that serves the community today.
Each day of the Centennial Celebration will highlight a different county office or area of local government, giving the public an opportunity to learn more about the people, responsibilities and services that make county government work. Historical exhibits, courthouse displays, local history, special guests and other activities will be featured throughout the week.
Daily activities will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include opportunities for local students, families and community members to explore the courthouse and learn about Cotton County’s history in an interactive way.
The week will also include a special evening community celebration on Thursday, November 5 from 6-8 p.m. bringing residents together to visit, share memories and celebrate this significant milestone. The public is encouraged to attend and be part of this special occasion.
“This Centennial Celebration is an opportunity for us to look back at the people, places and events that have shaped Cotton County while also celebrating the people who continue to serve our community today,” said Joe Schappert, Cotton County clerk and chair of the Courthouse Centennial Celebration Committee. “We hope this will be a time for the entire community to come together, share memories and celebrate 100 years of our courthouse.”
Residents are encouraged to watch for additional information about the daily activities, featured county offices and Thursday evening celebration as the Centennial Celebration approaches on the “Cotton County Centennial 2026” Facebook page.
The community is invited to join Cotton County in honoring the past, celebrating the present and building the future.
