Charles Wickwire

Charles Floyd Wickwire was born to Floyd Oxen Wickwire and Peggy (Dykes) Wickwire on April 2, 1937, in Lawton, Oklahoma, and departed this life in Oklahoma City on April 16, 2026, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 26 days.

Charles grew up in the Pumpkin Center community east of Lawton and graduated from Lawton Central High School in 1955. He attended Cameron College and Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education. He married Carolyn Jean Crowley on November 27, 1957, in Walters at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Four children were born to the union.

The family made their home in Oklahoma and Kansas communities while Charles managed co-op elevators. In 1976 they moved to Canyon, Texas, where Charles purchased and operated Wickwire Brokerage. Returning to Pumpkin Center in 1993, he later served as Co-op Manager for the Walters and Temple elevators before retiring after 40 years in the business.

Charles enjoyed bull riding in his younger years, playing golf, helping his children with 4-H and FFA projects, and raising chickens. He was a member of the Lions Club and Rotary International. He and Carolyn were faithful members of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lawton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Peggy Wickwire, and his brothers Eugene Wickwire and David Wickwire.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn; children Tara Brown, Mike Wickwire, Trent Wickwire and Karen, and Rhonda McMurry and Denver; sisters-in-law Karen Wickwire and Kay McCall; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

A private service was held April 22, 2026, at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel in Walters with interment in Letitia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
