Carolyn Jean (Crowley) Wickwire was born February 26, 1938, to W.E. “Elmer” Crowley and Mildred Elizabeth (Menz) Crowley in Walters, Oklahoma, and departed this life in Duncan, Oklahoma on April 28, 2026, at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 2 days.
The Crowley family moved to a farm east of Walters and Carolyn continued attending Walters Schools, graduating in 1955. She then attended Cameron College, receiving an associate’s degree in accounting. Carolyn married Charles Floyd Wickwire on November 27, 1957, in Walters, Oklahoma at St. Patrick Catholic Church. They moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where Charles completed his degree in Agriculture Education at Oklahoma State University.
Daughter Tara was born in Stillwater. The family later lived in Sayre, Oklahoma; Meade, Kansas; Manhattan, Kansas; Clinton, Oklahoma; Pauls Valley; Mountain View; Hooker; Canyon, Texas; and eventually returned to Pumpkin Center east of Lawton in 1993 following the deaths of their parents.
Throughout their 68-year marriage, Carolyn worked outside the home at times, but her dedication as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was cherished by all. She and Charles were faithful members of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lawton. Carolyn enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and making her renowned bread.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Mildred Crowley; her husband, Charles Wickwire; and her sister, Pat Parsons.
Survivors include four children: Tara Brown of Temple, Oklahoma; Mike Wickwire of Lawton; Trent Wickwire and Karen of Bryan, Texas; and Rhonda McMurry and Denver of Boyd, Texas; sister Kay McCall of Lawton; sister-in-law Karen Wickwire of Big Piney, Wyoming; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held May 4, 2026, at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel in Walters with interment in Letitia Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
