(Published in The Walters Herald March 12, 2026)
The City Council of Walters, Oklahoma adopted Ordinance No. 600 establishing liability and remedies when public utilities are accidentally damaged within city limits.
Under the ordinance, any account holder or associated party who damages utility equipment—including pipes, lines, wires, or meters—will be responsible for repair and replacement costs. These charges will appear on the customer’s utility bill.
The ordinance also provides an appeal process beginning with the utility billing clerk and, if unresolved, escalating to the City Manager.
The ordinance was adopted and approved March 3, 2026.
