Melanie Mason-Spence proudly serves as the 2025–2027 State President of Oklahoma Garden Clubs, Inc. A native of Killeen, Texas, now deeply rooted in Walters, Oklahoma, Melanie joined the Walters Dahlia Garden Club in 2010 after returning from Iraq. What began as a simple invitation to a local meeting blossomed into lifelong friendships and a passion for garden club work.
Through the mentorship and encouragement of many devoted members, Melanie’s journey has included roles as Club President, District President, State Chairman, Nationally Federated Accredited Flower Show Judge, and Judges Council member.
Her presidential theme, PLANT AMERICA – “Growing Together, Blooming Forever,” encourages outreach, inclusivity, and revitalized membership across Oklahoma. Her President’s Project, “Celebrate America with Wildflowers,” aims to plant native wildflowers in all 77 Oklahoma counties in partnership with the Oklahoma Native Plant Society and to establish a Gold Star Memorial at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in honor of fallen soldiers.
“We’ll celebrate America with wildflowers, promote partnerships like Keep America Beautiful, and strengthen membership and leadership through workshops, Zooms, and field trips — like our visit to the Euchee Butterfly Farm and plans for the Ouachita National Forest,” Melanie shared.
Plans are also underway for OGC’s 100th anniversary in 2029 — so if you’re a planner with a color-coded calendar, congratulations, you’ve just been recruited.
Melanie’s leadership blends heartfelt connection with purposeful action, cultivating growth, community pride, and a shared love for gardening throughout the state.
