The Dahlia Garden Club held its annual Appreciation and Membership Luncheon in the St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Hall on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The theme for the luncheon was “Harvest Time.” The room was decorated in a warm fall theme, with pots of chrysanthemums placed on each table. A delicious lunch and desserts were served by club members.
President Melanie Spence welcomed everyone to the luncheon and introduced the guests. She then invited all to serve themselves following a meal blessing offered by Wendy Zimmerman, Club Treasurer. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Carrie Belcher, Vice President, and the Gardeners Creed was led by Rhonda Griner.
Following lunch, President Melanie Spence and MaryAnn Holman presented certificates to special guests and community members who have supported the Garden Club’s many projects.
Those honored from the community in attendance were:
- Matt LaFee, City Manager, for his help with various community projects.
Others honored but not present included:
- Todd Pyle, for allowing the use of his store The Gem as a pickup location for bake sales
- Walters Bank & Trust Company, for assisting with event advertising
- Cotton County Art Council, for judging the Youth Poster Contest each year
After the presentations, President Melanie Spence introduced guest speaker Robin Pokorski, NGC Membership Spokesperson from California, and her husband, Greg. Robin gave an enthusiastic talk about growing membership and her love of gardening before continuing on to Midwest City to present two days of Membership and Leadership Training for Oklahoma Garden Clubs, Inc.
The meeting concluded with presenting honored guests with chrysanthemums from the head table, and the mums from the other tables were awarded to the person at each table whose birthday was closest to that of Robin Pokorski.
