Walters Senior Citizens Center Holds Members Annual Meeting

The members of the Walters Senior Citizens Center held their annual meeting at noon on August 18 th, 2025 with lunch provided by the Board of Directors.

During the meeting, Judge Michael Flanagan, President of the Board of Directors presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Christian Thomas for her time on the Board from 2021 until 2025. In 2021 when the Board was reorganized, Christian was elected as President and it was under her leadership that the Center was able to reinstate their 501c (3) status. Thomas and the rest of the Board have and continue to support the mission of the Center with their time and talents.

Although Thomas is stepping down from her position on the Board, she will continue to assist and support the Center.

Judge Flanagan also presented a plaque to the Center in honor of LynneAdene Thompson who served as the Center director from 2018 through 2021.

Thompson was crucial to the reorganization of the Center in 2021 and was a loyal member of the Center until she moved in November of 2024.

Members, guests and board members attending included, Phyllis Price, Sherri Flanagan, Donald Hill, April Hill, Susan Suson, Priscilla Pennington, Karolyn Hilbert, Joyce Adams, Monty Powers, Wendy Powers, Christian Thomas, Jean Vowell, Debbie Connely, Matt LeFee, Gerald Hayes, Sue Hayes, Debbe Whitehead, Jamon Kelley, Joyce Gray, Kathleen Flanagan and Mariah Clark.

The 2025 Annual Report was presented to members and guests. Highlights from the report included the receipt of a city grant to help cover utility expenses for the Center and the launching of an annual sponsorship program. Other highlights in the report included the 50th anniversary open house for the Center and the donations to the Veteran’s Home in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Judge Flanagan recognized Cotton County Abstract, Cotton County Drug, D’s Tease and Taper, Duncan Regional Hospital, Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Mac’s Quick Mart, Powers Services, the Walters Herald and Walters Bank and Trust for their generous donations to the mission of the Center.

The members elected Judge Michael Flanagan and Debbe Whitehead to fill vacant board positions. Sherri Flanagan was elected to fill the remainder of Christian Thomas’s term. The board of directors is now comprised of Judge Michael Flanagan, President; Jamon Kelly, Vice President; Sherri Flanagan, Secretary-Treasurer; Brantley Tillery, Member and Debbe Whitehead, Member.

The Walters Senior Citizens Center is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 8-4 and Thursdays from 8 until noon for seniors over the age of 50. Thursdays from 10-noon a group meets for coffee. Bingo is the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and Bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. You do not need to be a member to utilize the Center.
