The W.H. Pletch Senior Dog Sanctuary, located just outside Walters at the corner of 5 Mile and Highway 277, is proud to announce its official approval as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation. This milestone means the sanctuary can now accept tax-deductible donations to support its mission: giving senior dogs a soft place to land and a loving home in their final chapter.
Founded in memory of W.H. Pletch—a gentle soul who lived to 98 and never passed up a chance to care for an old dog—the sanctuary honors his legacy with every wagging tail and contented sigh. “My dad had a quiet, steady love for the ones most people overlooked—the dogs with cloudy eyes, slow steps, and so much love still left to give,” said Elisabeth Kirchner, founder of the sanctuary and owner of Urban Bakery and The Wild Urbans Farm. “This sanctuary is a promise kept. A soft bed, a quiet yard, a place where they feel safe, wanted, and home.”
The W.H. Pletch Foundation provides lifelong care to senior dogs who have been abandoned, surrendered, or simply aged out of the traditional shelter system. With growing support from the local community and donors across the state, the sanctuary is steadily expanding its facilities and services. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide veterinary care, nutritious food, grooming, and daily love to dogs who deserve nothing less.
Right now, donations are going directly toward the foundation’s first major step: pouring the concrete pad where the sanctuary building will one day stand. It’s the beginning of a dream—to lay the literal foundation for a place where love, care, and dignity are offered to dogs who need it most.
