Mrs. Nellie Patton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Adams, and Vernon Friels, of Frederick, were united in marriage Saturday evening, June 8, in the Methodist parsonage. Mr. Friels is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Friels, of Loco… A girl was born June 7 to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sylvester, of Walters route one. She has been given the name Janie Dolores… The seniors of Walters High School are getting caught up on their lost sleep and rest after their 17-day tour to Washington, D.C. While in D.C. they stayed in barracks at Camp Simms. The boys and girls shared a kitchen in common and had hot and cold showers and a private swimming pool. They traveled to D.C. on a bus the class purchased with money they had earned over the previous four years, with some having to travel in private automobiles as they couldn’t all fit in the bus. The 3,500-mile trip with 49 people for 17 days cost them $380, which included gas, oil, motor repair, tolls, and all meals.

Alvin Briscoe, former county undersheriff, began his duties with the city police force Friday night, June 4. Briscoe will serve on the night force with Harold Moorehead, while Chief Bob Lewis will handle the day duties… James Henry Glenn has been appointed manager of Lone Star Gas Company’s Walters District. Glenn replaces B. G. Johnson, who has been appointed district manager in Frederick… Marriage license was issued to: Robert L. Carroll, Jr., 18, and Joanne Norton, 18, both of Temple… Mrs. Lena Bell Lee and X. L. Minnich were united in marriage June 5 in the First Baptist Church… Wedding vows were solemnized for Miss Dorothy Briscoe and Bobby Brinkley June 4 in the Emerson Baptist Church. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Willard Briscoe, Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Brinkley, Walters, are parents of the groom.

Jim Ingram, Jr. and Michael J. Parrish have opened Broadway Television Service Center at 103 N. Broadway… The Walters School Board has hired Jeri Lyn Cocannouer, wife of Dan Cocannouer, head football coach, as middle school secretary; Marla Anne Smith, as junior high and high school girls basketball, softball and track coach; Steve Cofer as junior high and high school basketball, high school baseball and assistant high school football coach; and Robert Brian Blackburn as 7th grade boys and girls coach in all sports.

Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Morris, daughter Mary Francis, and sons Billy and Gene, formerly of Fox, have constructed a building that will be their home and business combined, where they plan to serve school lunches and the usual drinks that are common to school children. It is located across the road east of the high school building… In the Farm Family of the Year contest, sponsored by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, the Herman Hooper family, of route 2, Hastings, was named to represent Cotton County.
