We have received multiple reports regarding residents in Cotton County receiving telephone calls from an individual falsely claiming to be a deputy for the Cotton County Sheriff’s Office. This imposter informs recipients that they have outstanding fines and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The caller appears to be contacting from an Oklahoma-based phone number and claims that the warrant will be dropped upon receiving payment.
This is a fraudulent scheme. It is essential to note the following:
- No law enforcement agency will initiate contact to inform individuals of an arrest warrant.
- We do not solicit payments via telephone.
- Legitimate law enforcement agencies and court systems do not accept gift cards as payment.
These scammers are likely utilizing overseas VoIP calls. Under no circumstances should you provide personal information to these individuals.
