Velma Dean Johnson, also known as Deanie, led a life full of family, community involvement, and a love for service. Born to Charley and Estelle Moore on December 19, 1927 and passed away on March 7, 2025.

Deanie grew up on a farm east of Walters, Oklahoma. She graduated from Walters High School in 1946, before marrying James Wayne Johnson on March 28, 1946. The couple briefly lived in Lawton, OK, where Deanie worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, before returning to Walters.

Deanie’s career with SW Bell continued for 15 years, after which she attended floral school and opened her own floral and gift shop. She ran the shop for many years, with her last location being on Main Street in Walters before she and Wayne retired in the mid-1980s.
