Terry Don Herring was born to Vernard LaVerne and Janet Carleen (Logan) Herring on May 24, 1959, in Tacoma, WA, and departed this life in Oklahoma City, OK, on February 7, 2025, at the age of 65 years, 8 months, and 14 days.
Coming from Tacoma at age five, Terry grew up in Tipton before moving to Walters, graduating from WHS in 1977. He married Nikki Ann Zachary on January 27, 1978, in Walters, and to the union, a daughter, Erin Kris, was born. Early on, he did farm labor and then worked for Brown and Root, later joining the State Department.
Terry later married Sonia Lynne Codynah on September 21, 1984, in Wichita Falls, TX, and to the union, three children, Mishona Maree, Mindi Mishell, and Johnathon Cade, were born. They made their home in Walters, and Terry worked construction with Comanche Nation Housing before spending 18 years at Goodyear in final finish. He was last employed for five years at Comanche Nation Games in Lawton until his health began to fail.
Terry was a member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed collecting windmills, John Deere, and OU memorabilia. He loved muscle cars and was an avid OU football fan. Above all, he loved his kids and grandkids and enjoyed watching them play sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LaVerne and Carleen Herring, and his in-laws, Milton and Nancy Codynah.
Survivors include his wife, Sonia Herring of the home; four children, Erin Simpson and Shannon of Holliday, TX, Mishona Herring of Edmond, OK, Mindi Chasenah and JD of Walters, and J.C. Herring of Walters; six grandchildren, Gage and Kylie Simpson, Jermaine and Jermiah Chasenah, Trenity and Trevin Reed; a very special aunt, Geneva Hawkins and Howard of Walters; an uncle, Rex Herring and Candy of Hurst, TX; many other relatives and a host of friends.
