Margaret (Sholl) Harris, 97 Evanston, IL

Beloved member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Evanston, IL, Margaret (Sholl) Harris passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at Westminster Place in Evanston after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded by family and friends.

Margaret was born on October 5, 1927, in Durant, OK, to William Nace Sholl and Lily Belle Spencer. Her father was a minister at the Presbyterian Church for many years. She had two brothers and three sisters, all of whom she outlived.

On June 1, 1947, Margaret married Bob L. Harris of Walters, OK, in Norman, OK. They were happily married for 66 years and had three sons. The family frequently visited Walters during the 1950s and 60s.

Margaret graduated from high school in Haskell, TX, worked at Tinker Air Force Base during World War II, and briefly attended the University of Oklahoma and Northwestern University as an English major. She worked for the Board of Education in Bergenfield, NJ, the Norman Transcript in Oklahoma, and as a travel agent in Norman, OK, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Evanston, IL. She loved traveling, exploring different parts of the world, and was a Mary Kay beauty consultant for many years.

At Northminster, Margaret sang in the choir, served as a Deacon and an elder, and volunteered in various capacities. She loved cooking, gardening, and had a green thumb. She was an avid Scrabble and Bridge player, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a beautiful woman, a great mother, and a devoted and supportive wife.

Margaret is survived by her three sons, Robert, Edward, and Paul, as well as her two granddaughters, Rebecca and Lily. While we mourn her passing, we also rejoice in her freedom.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Evanston. Interment will take place in the Memorial Garden at the church.

In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible contributions may be made to the Women’s Resource Center of Norman, OK, P.O. Box 5089, Norman, OK, 73070, or online at wrcnormanok.org.
