Carol grew up in San Pedro, California, in an unstable home environment, so her father allowed his sister and brother-in-law, Vermell and Harlon Hodnett, to adopt Carol, and she was raised by them in a stable Christian home. Carol enjoyed reading, listening to music, singing, and writing music. She also loved writing poetry and has written several poetry books starting when she was a teenager. She loved learning anything new and would take classes or read books to ensure she was always learning.
