A boy was born Thursday morning to Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Sorge, of Temple… A marriage license was issued to Euel David Clift, 33, Fort Sill, and Miss Daisy Lee Covey, 16, Walters… Charter for a new Rotary club at Temple was granted last week by Rotary International… A. C. Harris has been appointed local agent for the Mistletoe Express and the Oklahoma Pub. Co. Harris succeeds Verne Thompson as agent. Now located first door north of Fletcher Implement Co. on Broadway… Toots Gilliam opened a jewelry store Saturday, September 30, in the old E. Oliver Jewelry store building.

Miss Charla Cain, 1964 chapter Sweetheart of Walters Future Farmers of America, will compete Saturday, September 26, for the title of state sweetheart against more than 100 other chapter representatives at the Oklahoma State Fair… Amber LeBarre, four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don LeBarre, of Walters, was selected as the mascot for the Walters high school Pep Club… Miss Marilyn Faye McCullough, senior at Big Pasture high school, was selected as chapter sweetheart to represent the Big Pasture Future Farmers of America at the Oklahoma State Fair in the competition for State Sweetheart.

Bill Raines, top contender in the August 28 primary election for County Sheriff, continued to hold onto his lead and narrowly defeated former sheriff Woodrow Wilson in Tuesday’s runoff primary by a scant 57 votes… Jean Ann Cox and Francis Richard Lennard were married in the First Baptist church in Wichita Falls Saturday. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Earl Cox, of Temple. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Lennard, of Wichita Falls… The Howard Johnson Restaurant at the Walters exit of H. E. Bailey Turnpike, was torn down this week to make way for a new McDonald’s Restaurant and Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation Information Center.

The First Methodist church of Temple will receive a “face-lifting” in the next few weeks, as the building is to be Permastoned… Ray Spann, Herman Fetters, and Billy Don Hooper, president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer respectively, will head the Temple Chamber of Commerce for the next year… A family reunion was held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Keeter, of Wichita, Kansas. Keeter is the brother of Mrs. Lynn Mooney. This was the first time that they have been together in 22 years and the first Christmas in 34 years.
