Michael Mershon Moore, lovingly known as Mike or Grandad, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024. Born on January 23, 1949, Mike’s life was defined by love, creativity, and a deep faith in Christ. He was a proud graduate of Walters High School (Class of 1967) and pursued higher education with passion, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor of Science in Geology/Hydrology from the University of Oklahoma. His academic achievements reflected his wide-ranging interests and intellectual curiosity.
A transformative year spent as a foreign exchange student in Sweden ignited Mike’s love of travel, diverse cultures, and food. His professional journey began in videography at News 9 in Oklahoma City before transitioning into geology, where he worked as an independent geologist and later served nearly two decades as a hydrologist and geologist for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
On September 3, 1983, Mike married the love of his life, Marcia Elaine Snip Collins. Together, they built a life rooted in love and shared values. Mike was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a playful, proud Grandad.
He is survived by his wife Marcia, his children David Moore (Kathryn) and Natalie Torbett (Dewey), and his five, soon to be six, grandsons: Henry and Charlie Moore; Braxton, Silas, Bradley, and baby Branson Torbett, due in November. Mike is also survived by his sisters, Linda Thompson (Gary) and Margaret Ann Kinder (Jimmy), their children and grandchildren, and his maternal aunt Barbara Jane Mershon.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Matthew Moore and Eugenia Louise Mershon Moore, his paternal grandparents William Osborn “WO” Moore and Minnie Ann Street Moore, and his maternal grandparents Lee Frank Mershon and Gladys E. Rice Mershon.
Mike’s life was filled with many passions. He had a strong interest in weather, photography, fishing, and spending time with his grandsons. He also loved taking long walks, collecting rocks, traveling with his family, cooking, and woodworking. Known for his homemade contraptions, Mike had a knack for solving problems and passing those skills down to his children and grandchildren. His mischievous yet creative spirit lives on in them.
A man of deep faith, Mike dedicated his life to Christ and instilled the importance of love for others in his children. He was an active volunteer with Disciples for Water, continuing his mission work throughout his life. Mike will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through the example he set and the love he gave so generously.
His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 5 at First Christian Church in Edmond, followed by a reception. A burial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on September 6 in Walters Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s memory to First Christian Church Edmond or Disciples for Water (P.O.
