She then moved to Wichita Falls, TX, living at the YMCA while working for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator. She married Doyle Jackie Vardell on June 14, 1958 at Union Valley Baptist Church in Cookietown and to the union 2 sons, Ricky and Mike, were born. They made their home in Temple, OK and every summer they went on harvest with Vardell Harvesting. She drove a truck and brought food to the fields. They moved to Perryton, TX in 1964 soon moved on to Spearman, TX where they lived 11 years and continued harvesting wheat and milo. While in Texas she attended Pampa Beauty School in the late 1970’s and then went to work at Sandy’s Beauty Shop in Spearman.

After several life changes, she and son Mike returned to Temple in 1978 and she went to work at the Haggar slacks factory. In the 1980’s she opened up a little shop called Louises Head Set. Being an entrepreneur and knowing she could help with more than beauty, she opened another beauty shop with Pat Walker machines. There you could get your hair fixed and get your body toned.
