Joe Hill, 87
Joe Newton Hill was born to Oscar Newton and Myrtle (Midgley) Hill on May 1, 1935 in Poteau, OK and departed this life on July 5, 2022 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 4 days.
Joe grew up in Poteau, OK. He served his country proudly and honorably in the Army during the Korean War. Joe then made his home at Huntington Beach, CA where he worked for General Motors and was transferred to the Oklahoma City plant in 1983. On July 6, 1985 he married Sandra Ann (Norton) Shelton in Las Vegas, NV. He retired from GM after 30 years in 1987 and they moved to Temple, OK. Later they moved to Mount Pleasant, TX, then Beavers Bend, OK and back to Mount Pleasant before settling in Oklahoma City in 2007 which has been their home since.
He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed wood carving and fishing. He was “Papa Joe” to his grandkids whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Myrtle Hill, as well as several brothers and sisters.
Joe is survived by his wife, Sandra, of the home; 2 children, Scott Shelton of Mount Pleasant, TX and Melanie Callicoat of Oklahoma City; 1 sister; 5 grandchildren, Ronnie and Keaton Callicoat of Oklahoma City, OK and Brennan, Emily, and Kelsie Shelton of Mount Pleasant, TX; other family and friends.
