Funeral Service at the Open Door Church of God in Walters, Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Roger Noland officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters on Thursday evening from 6:00-7:30 pm. Earl Douglas Martin was born to Jessie Walter and Alice Dorothy (Kittrell) Martin on September 2, 1943 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on May 4, 2024 at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 2 days.

Earl or “Doug” grew up at Walters, starting school at Union Valley and then on to Walters Public Schools. He began working construction and along with brothers Keith and Arnold, they built cellars for a time. People would say they were the best built cellars they had ever seen. He then went to work for the City of Walters approximately 40 years ago beginning in the street department and then as the Animal Control Officer for the last 17 years.

He had joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and gave 3 years to his country, serving mainly on the USS Hornet. He said it was some of the most rewarding times of his life. He loved taking care of his beloved dog, Duke, and all the others. He enjoyed his job with the City of Walters.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William F. Kittrell, Rebecca Elizabeth Kittrell, Walter C. Martin and Nina Pearl Martin; his parents, Jessie W. Martin and Alice D. Martin; his brothers, Jessie K. “Leon” Martin, Donald O’dell Martin, F. Doyle Martin and L. Keith Martin; and his sister, Connie Pearl Doake.

Survivors include his 2 brothers, Arnold W. Martin and wife Dawn of England and Stanley B. Martin of Walters; his sister Margaret M. Robison and husband Rod of Gore, OK; his friend, Woodi McCoy of Elgin, OK; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
