Body

Betty Jo Daniel, 79, passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Denison, TX on Saturday March 2, 2024.

Betty was born May 19, 1944, to Floyd D. and Goldie (Dillard) Washington in Vivian, LA. She was one of four children born to this union. She spent her early childhood in the city where she was born, before moving to Walters, OK. She was a 1962 graduate of Walter’s High School where she was active in a multitude of organizations.

Betty married her high school sweetheart, James Daniel, December 7, 1962. The happy couple made their home in Denison, TX where they raised their two children. She was an avid sports enthusiast, and took great joy in helping her children, grandchildren and all those they brought around excel in what they did. Betty lived for the sounds of love and laughter, and was blessed that so many friends of her children and grandchildren helped fill her home.

Betty started her early career working in the bank in her hometown, and later moving into medical administration. She retired on August 11, 2015 from Texoma Care Family Medicine.

She always had a song in her heart and on her lips. A natural born hostess, Betty enjoyed the company of others and never met a stranger. In her free time she was a master of crafts and reader. Betty and her husband spent a large portion of their life raising racehorses. Her fiery red hair was an indication of her fun yet competitive nature, and she regularly held game nights with her family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Goldie and Floyd, brother Floyd “Sonny” Washington, sister Billye Wrape, and son Jimmy Daniel.

She is survived by her husband, James Daniel of Denison, TX; daughter, Sherry Ragland & Joe of Sherman, TX; sister Margaret Lewis & Russell of Geronimo, OK; granddaughters Brandy Prince and Gabe of Colbert, OK, and Casey-Jo Borah of Bells, TX; great- grandchildren Piper Bearden, Amy Borah, Alexander Borah, Jesse Borah and Killian Smith; and great-greatgrandson Thomas (TJ) McDougall; along with a host of nieces and nephews and loving family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday March 8, 2024 at 2:00 pm at American Funeral Service chapel in Denison, TX, with interment to follow at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro, TX. Family and friends visitation will also be held one day prior at American Funeral Services March 7th, 2024 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
