Rev. Percy E. Haley, a new minister of the First Bapist church here, has assumed his duties as pastor. He succeeds Rev. J.T. Jones, who resigned to become pastor at Kingfisher...Announcement has been made this week of the marriage Saturday night of Miss Beatrice Ellis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Ellis, or Cordell, and Marvin Rogers, at the home of Mr. Rogers’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rogers in Walters. Miss Ellis has been employed as a beauty operator in Walters for three years.. The Walters Sea Scout Ship (the name of the group of eight boys) is one of the few in Oklahoma. Skipper is Glenn Pottz and First Mate is Buddy Pearson. They are building a 21 foot sloop and plan to launch it on Lake Boyer. Members of the ship are Bruce Mooney, Leslie Thorne, Willie Thorne, Howell Ogletree, George Thompson, Clovis Cleveland, Bill Ogletree and Vaston Hand.

Walters board of education last week elevated Morris Gene Philpott, junior high coach for the past two years, to the post of head football coach to succeed Clint Ponder. He will also supervise the weight program in high school and teach classroom subjects. The board employed Bill Rhodes, of Weatherford, as assistant football coach and head basketball coach. Jim Smith, who has been assistant high school coach, has been named junior high coach...DeOlen Palmer has opened Palmer’s TV Service at 105 E. Colorado...Wedding vows for Miss Karen Powell and Ray Hatchett will be exchanged May 28 in the Walters First Baptist church. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Phillip R. Powell, of Lawton. The groom is the son of Ray Hatchett. of Lawton, and Mrs. La-Donna Klein, of Portland, Ore., and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Hatchett of Walters.

Valedictorian of the Big Pasture senior class this year is Dee Anna Klimek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Klimek, of Devol. Salutatorian is Kimberly Ranee Eschler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Eschler, of Cookietown...Miss Sherry Lynn Fletcher and Keith Johnson solemnized wedding vows in the First Baptist church in Walters Sunday, March 31. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Fletcher, of Walters. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnson, of Marlow...A marriage license was issued Jerry Leonard Thompson, 23, of Temple, and Loessa Sue Simmons, 21, of Walters... Sue McCracken, of Walters, has been named to the position of Vice-President of the Lawton Loan and Investment Corp., in Lawton. She replaces Frank Ross, who has been with the corporation for 23 years, and has now retired Mrs. McCracken has been with the corporation for eight years.

Miss Byrle Stone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.H. Stone, Temple, recently became the bride of Phillip Shera, of Longview, Texas, with vows repeated in the Belle Glade, Fla. In July the bride recieved her master’s degree from East Texas Teachers College and will continue to teach in Burkburnett.
